The Need for Speed franchise this year will mark 25 years since the first titular installment dropping for the 3DO in 1994, and publisher Electronic Arts in celebration alongside the developers for the series have paved for a new title to drop sometime later this year for quarter century anniversary. According to the publisher’s financial report, a new Need for Speed title is expected to release sometime in Q3 2019.

In anticipation of a new racing title from Electronic Arts, at the time, the team for the coming installment announced that the unannounced title will not be present at the then-approaching E3 event in the following month. However, the team did share to reassure impatient fans that the forthcoming game will hold be one to remember in alignment with the 25 year anniversary.

Now this week, fans have discovered a countdown on EA’s website that is ticking down to this coming Wednesday that will reveal the next installment for the Need for Speed franchise. As of writing, the timer is at 1 day, 16 hours, 9, minutes, and 55 seconds: which aims the timer to strike zero at 9 AM EST / 6 AM PST.

Looking back at the bevy of different titles that have released for the series, the developer wants to use all knowledge from their catalogue to bring a title that holds reminiscence towards previous installments with core gameplay elements while still achieving a new experience never before seen. “But NFS is also the culmination of many different aspects, and there’s a special essence that appears when all these aspects come together at a very high quality, an essence that helps create that unique NFS feeling. You could say this essence is our DNA, and it’s exactly what we’re injecting straight into our next project.”

Atop of the reveal that is scheduled later this week, Gamescom will also be held the following week and Electronic Arts will be present to reveal a new game alongside other AAA publishers. Hopefully more of the new title will be showcased in Germany.
