Bloomberg has reported that Niantic Inc., the creator of Pokémon Go, is in discussions to sell its video game business to Scopely Inc., which is controlled by Saudi Arabia. The deal is expected to be revealed in the coming weeks says the outlet.

The price being discussed for Niantic’s video-game business is around $3.5 billion, according to the outlet’s sources. Whatever the agreement comes to it will involve Pokémon Go including other mobile games. It wasn’t reported but one of the other games could be the newly released Monster Hunter Now.

Bloomberg also says there is no guarantee that an agreement will be reached between Scopely and Niantic.

There’s no question that Pokémon Go holds the most value in Niantic’s video-game division since it was released in 2016. However, the company had struggled to maintain success at times by having to lay off employees in 2023.

Do you think this is a smart decision by Niantic?
