Nintendo is currently on a great high since the release of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. It’s on pace to earn $1 billion at the global box office just like the first film. There have been many reports that the company is pitching multiple new movies.
According to an insider, V Scooper on X (Twitter), Nintendo is pitching a Metroid movie, and there is a push between Universal Studios and Sony to take on the film.
This comes after another X account claims there is a whole list of movies being worked on or being pitched. V Scooper says the initial report matches what he heard and reported, but doubts that every Mario spin-off idea will move forward. The insider says there might be hope for a Kirby movie.
As usual, we must take reports like these with a grain of salt.
There have been reports that a Luigi’s Mansion movie is being pitched with Charlie Day. The actor has also expressed interest in making the spin-off movie.
It’s unclear if the Metroid movie would be animated or live-action. If it’s true that Sony and Universal are involved, it could go either way. Currently, Sony is working on The Legend of Zelda movie. There is hope for a Donkey Kong movie after a copyright was filed last year.
Would you watch a Metroid movie?
