Microsoft and XBOX CEO, Asha Sharma has been open of the idea speeding up the development of its franchises like Halo and Fallout. This would mean creating a joint venture with other partners.
It has been rumored that Microsoft has been considering a Halo MMO built similar to how Destiny 2 is. This new rumor comes from HTD_Blog on the GamingLeaksAndRumours Subreddit. The user claims he has a friend who has worked in a position where “he would know this information”.
The user reports that a Halo MMO has been talked about for the last 1 to 2 years. It’s in the “idea stage” and a small amount of development has occurred to get a feel for gameplay. They said you’ll play the role of a soldier, similar to ODST.
Here is what they said:
“The idea was put on the table by Obsidian, and Phil Spencer said “give it a go”. He was more than happy, since some of the biggest consistent moneymakers for Microsoft are their MMOs – ESO, FO76, and WoW. Obsidian will NOT be making it, though. My friend said it is a team within a studio called ‘Team X’.
From what I have heard, you’ll play the role of a solider, similar to ODST. Then complete various quests on different planets. PVP, dungeons, and Raids will be there (if approved). Basically, think of Destiny 2 but in the Halo universe.”
To this point, Halo Studios have not addressed this rumor. It’s very likely this could be false so we should take this with a grain of salt. A Halo MMO is what hardcore fans would dream of for sure.
Right now, Halo Studios is releasing Halo: Campaign Evolved on July 28 and reportedly have two other projects in the works including a multiplayer game.
