
For half a decade, Capcom has done an impressive amount of post-launch support for Street Fighter V. But despite the continued content that flowed into the fighter, fans were ready for a new installment after years later. In 2022, Capcom officially announced Street Fighter 6. And it was not too long after it confirmed a June release date would be slated for the game.
Additionally, the developer/publisher confirmed its first year content wave for Street Fighter 6. Rashid, A.K.I., Ed, and Akuma were all revealed to be added characters following the game’s release. Alongside the immense hype for the newest entry, Capcom projects sales for the newest Street Fighter 6 is expected to hit around 10 million copies sometime after it hits stores.
Now in a recent announcement from Capcom, an open beta for Street Fighter 6 is said to be held this week. The playtest will go live from May 19th 12 AM PST – May 21st 12 AM PST. Pre-downloading will be available on May 16th. You can watch the open beta trailer in the video below:
“The open beta will feature the same content as the closed beta test conducted in December 2022.The release version will be further adjusted and will feature updated character balance, etc. We ask for your understanding,” Capcom writes in the blog post. Characters Luke, Jamie, Ryu, Chun-Li, Guile, Kimberly, Juri, and Ken will be available alongside stages Metro City Downtown, Genbu Temple, Carrier Byron Taylor, Tian Hong Yuan, The Macho Ring, and Training Room.
Elsewhere recently it was reported that Legendary Entertainment is to pursue a new Street Fighter live-action film. The production has yet to include casting or those responsible for making the film. You can read the full report by heading here.
