So far, 2026 has rolled out a consistent number of impressive improvements to the XBOX UI & interface. Back in March, we saw this with the new changes that would roll out for the XBOX Dashboard alongside the Quick Resume feature being adjusted as well. April answered to years of requests for an overhaul to Achievements including new animations for the Rare Achievement icon as well.
Additionally, April also featured a new mode on Windows 11: XBOX Mode. The new addition is a complete retooling of XBOX’s PC app to deliver a grounded experience similar to what users already find on console. Looking ahead, Microsoft recently indicated a major update is coming this week. It was understood by Jez Corden at Windows Central that the previously reported disc-to-digital program would officially reveal itself then.
It turns out the XBOX Insiders update is not a simple title update, but instead a large list of features that are now live for XBOX consoles on Update Preview. Some of the features included in Update OS version: 10.0.26100.8866 lists new 15-character limit for Gamertags, fresh XBOX 360 achievement art, and poster-style artwork for your game library.
“We’ve heard from players who wanted a little more flexibility when choosing a gamertag, and we’re bringing back support for unique gamertags up to 15 characters long, expanded from the previous 12-character limit. This update applies to gamertags that are unique and available, giving you more room to create a gamertag that feels like you,” the page reads. “You can now display games with rich poster-style artwork for a more immersive library experience.”
It adds: “Additionally, you can now remove badges from the box art for your games to match your preference. […] More personalization options, such as dark and light themes, custom backgrounds, setting a solid color background, a limited selection of dynamic backgrounds or customizing the color of dynamic background are now available when your console is offline.”
And: “Players will now see the game art when cloud gaming sessions are loading. When your streaming session begins, you will now be taken directly into the game instead of seeing the XBOX logo before the game loads. […] XBOX 360 achievement art will now be rendered with crisp pixel blocks when upscaled.”
Are you excited for these new features now coming to XBOX?
