Just this past spring, one of the largest purchases in industry history was made. However, this is obviously not the Activision Blizzard deal. Instead, the acquisition being mentioned is the western studios sale from Square Enix to Embracer Group. For only $300 million, the firm acquired Crystal Dynamics, Eidos-Montreal, and Square Enix Montreal also. Following the deal, the firm pressed remakes and remasters are already in the playbook for the teams.

Additionally, Square Enix despite selling its talent in May already shared interest in forming new teams in the west organically. At the time of the report, there was no mentions of potential candidates to lead this new pursuit or what projects it will be attached to. Prior to the deal, it was shared that Crystal Dynamics has partnered with Xbox Game Studios on The Initiative’s Perfect Dark remake underway.

According to a new report from Bloomberg, this arrangement has now swelled even more with the Xbox firm. In that, not only is Crystal Dynamics working on a first-party Xbox title, but now is Eidos-Montreal. In the story, it is said that the Deus Ex developer is working alongside Playground Games on the forthcoming Fable remake title as well.

In some other unfortunate news, it was also shared that one of the teams is being shuttered. In that, Square Enix Montreal which was renamed to Onoma is being shut down. The team prior to the Embracer Group deal worked on mobile game ventures including Hitman Go & Lara Croft Go. Word on where the employees are heading is said to be pointing towards Eidos-Montreal.

Details on what the team is working on however is left unanswered. They could be tackling Fable like it is reported. Howbeit, there is also reports suggesting the team is finally returning to the Deus Ex IP as well with a new installment. Or possibly even a remake/remaster which Embracer Group shared also.

Are you confident in Fable with Eidos-Montreal now attached to its development?
