Came the upcoming release for the PlayStation 5, Sony Interactive Entertainment appeared to be starting its first pushback against Xbox Game Pass. Over in Poland, the PlayStation Video Pass had a soft launch offering more content including film & television. Then for PlayStation 5 introduced PlayStation Plus Collection: a free library of hard-hitting titles for subscribers on the new console.

Of course, this was before the new tiered system that reworked PlayStation Plus/PlayStation Now back in May last spring. With the new service featured multiple generations of games and an even wider lineup of games. However, PlayStation Plus Collection faced a new obstacle with games leaving. In May, Persona 5 departed from the service at the time.

Now in 2023, Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced the entirety of PlayStation Plus Collection will be no more this spring.

We also wanted to provide an update on the PlayStation Plus Collection that has been offered as a benefit to PlayStation Plus members on PS5 since 2020. On May 9 the PlayStation Plus Collection will no longer be offered. If you haven’t redeemed the titles in this collection yet, you can still do so before May 9, which will enable you to access those titles even after this date for as long as you remain a PlayStation Plus member.

Adam Michel, Sony Interactive Entertainment Director of Content Acquisitions & Operations

The reveal comes paired with the approaching PlayStation Plus free games arriving in February 2023. For this month includes four new additions: Destiny 2: Beyond Light, Evil Dead: The Game, OlliOlli World, and Mafia: Definitive Edition. The update features versions for PlayStation 4 & PlayStation 5 except for Mafia: Definitive Edition which only features a PlayStation 4 version.

As for more games coming to the PlayStation 5 platform, Sony Interactive Entertainment has confirmed PlayStation 2 VR is to feature nearly three dozen titles optimized for the new virtual reality headset at its release in a couple weeks. You can read the full report by heading here.

What are your thoughts on the decision from the PlayStation firm?
