This morning, an update rolled out for PlayStation consoles that adds DRM to PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 digital games. This seems to have been a major bug from an update that Sony did recently.
The update was noticed early this morning by Does it play on X (Twitter). The DRM update will require digital games to be checked in every 30 days, meaning PS4 and PS5 owners will have to connect to the internet every 30 days. Essentially, you’ll have to renew the license of your digital games every 30 days.
You can see the 30-day timer in the image below:

Unintentional Update From Sony
This is an unintentional update from Sony, according to reports from an anonymous insider from Does it play. Sony accidentally broke something while fixing an exploit. This looks to be a short-lived error, but also concerning if it did become a mainstay for PlayStation owners.
DRM became an issue in 2013 when the Xbox One was revealed. Before the outrage by millions of fans, you would have to connect the Xbox One to the internet every 24-hours.
What do you think if you had to check in your games online every 30 days?
