Discussion regarding the upcoming release of the next generation of console hardware is becoming more prevalent the further into 2020 we are. Specifically for publisher Ubisoft, the company is slowly shedding its skin from the current Xbox One and PlayStation 4 in preparation for the coming Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5.
Earlier in the month, Ubisoft disclosed in the firm’s annual investor earnings call that the publisher is aligning five new games to release in the coming fiscal year regarding the company’s AAA franchises. Further validating that titles like God & Monsters, Rainbox Six: Quarantine, and Watch Dogs: Legion will be available this year. Even more, industry insiders have reaffirmed that this also includes the unannounced Assassin’s Creed title slated for 2020 alongside a new Far Cry entry.
Expanding more on the topic, these titles are also suspected to be the first to debut on the newer consoles as well. Ubisoft earlier in 2019 disclosed to have five titles being primed for the approaching hardware; leaving implications for the then-recently delayed titles. With two left unnamed, it is suggested those are the others we have learned of this month.
In light of the discussion for Ubisoft titles on next generation hardware, the company announces that the ongoing Rainbow Six Siege will be arriving to both Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5. The game’s director, Leroy Athanassof, tells Windows Central that Ubisoft’s ambitions for the game to arrive at launch this coming holiday.
Why I can’t give you a date is because those dates are, in the end, on the people doing the next-gen consoles. What I can tell you is that we are going to be on [the consoles] from launch. When they will release the consoles; but it’s up to them to agree that. For Siege, our target is to be available right at launch.
With the game’s additions for the newer systems planned to arrive in the latter of this year, Athanassof also shares for more integrated multiplayer between generations. He tells that Ubisoft is also shipping the newer version of Rainbow Six Siege to support cross-generation play which essentially allows users who own different systems of the respected brand to play with one another.
Additionally, Athanassof also discloses of hopes for the team working on Siege to implement cross-platform play as well, but it is unsure when exactly that will arrive. “We would love to be fully cross-play — have Xbox players matchmaking against the PlayStation players. We are ready to support that. And hopefully, this will happen because as I said, it’s a general move in the industry, and there is nothing that can prevent that. It’s just a matter of time before it happens.”
Developers concerning the jump to next generation hardware as of late have show to show support for those who are not ready to make the commitment just yet. Even when it comes to future installments too, Blizzard Entertainment illustrated this with the announcement of Overwatch 2 as players wll have the ability to play with one another if owning either entry of the series.
