Just today, we learned that the upcoming and highly-anticipated Last of Us Part II was delayed until May next year; shortly after the game’s previous announcement framing the launch for late February. Now in the midst of fans still trying to process waiting a few more months for Naughty Dog’s long-awaited sequel, news on a delay for Sucker Punch Production’s Ghost of Tsushima has spawned from the news as well.
Yesterday, talk broke out that one of Sony Interactive Entertainment’s first-party titles were expected to release, but what exactly has yet to be disclosed. Fingers were instantly pointed towards Media Molecule’s Dreams and Sucker Punch’s latest project, but no one predicted that the rumor was aimed towards next year survival action title.
In the aftermath of The Last of Us Part II delay, Kotaku News Editor Jason Schreier shed some light on the feudal Japan set title revealing that the game has now been pushed to the second half of next year.

Dissecting where the game initially stood, Schreier shares that the title was initially aimed to launch sometime after 2020 commenced, but unfortunately was decided to be moved to the later timeframe we know now. This is a repeat of events as we have already seen with other PlayStation exclusive projects: Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding was previously reported to be the reason Naughty Dog’s title was shifted into next year after requiring more development time.
This news also debunks the previous claim that Ghost of Tsushima’s release date was leaked to release some time in 2019, but now knowing that is not the case. Ultimately, this does explain a lot seeing that Sony Interactive Entertainment has not been very vocal about the upcoming project since discussing the game nearly a year ago.
Schreier then goes on to state to not “expect them to turn it into a PS5 game,” speaking towards the forthcoming title. Understanding that the game has been in development since 2017, it wouldn’t seem likely for Sucker Punch Productions to suddenly transfer the game’s development on a wim to the next generation due to a slight layback for the project.
Are you willing to wait until the brink of the PlayStation 5 for Sucker Punch’s next title?
Ghost of Tsushima is reported to reveal in the second half of 2020 for PlayStation 4.
