It is surprising to reflect to 2019 when we were just learning of a potential rumor which tells that Titanfall developer Respawn Entertainment to be releasing some sort of battle royale title in the growing slew of other similar games. Although PlayerUnkown Battlegrounds and Fortnite have capitalized on the genre’s popularity, Apex Legends swiftly grew in the public eye with the character-based combat and unique features that were introduced to battle royale medium.
Now a year later running close to the year anniversary since the title launched, Respawn Entertainment hosted a Devstream earlier today reflecting on the game’s launch and discussing what is arriving in the next chapter for Apex Legends. Hosted by Community Manager Jay Frechette, he announces that the new season for Apex Legends will be dubbed with the alias ‘Assimilation.’
Alike previous seasons that were shipped to The Outlands, Season Four will of course introduce a new Legend, Forge. Game Writer Tom Casiello and Design Director Jason McCord shares that the next addition of the newest Legend will be “the complete opposite of Crypto,” Casiello briefly defining Forge. Unlike other Legend back stories, Forge is an overcoming athlete who looks to take on graver challenges outside of Mixed Martial Arts in favor for the festivities in The Outlands. Making forge stand out more, he will be the first Legend to be sponsored by a company also, Hammond Robotics which Titanfall fans will recognize.
Aside from his history, there is little detail that the team discussed regarding Forge’s playstyle or offered abilities. Granted, the developers do emphasize on his “mean left hook” characterized by his robotic arm that he flexes in the image shown. More is expected to unfold later on when the new season starts in a couple weeks.

Seen from the image above is the new sniper rifle that will be added in Assimilation. The Sentinel is a bolt-action rifle which is said to include an alternative ‘charge mode’ which other energy weapons can do. Casiello teases that players will have to strategize when they should use the different fire mode in favor for a more successful outcome depending on the situation.
Moving on to the ranked spectrum of Apex Legends, Series 3 will offer a new Master Rank to replace Apex Predator. However, Apex Predator will still be rewarded to those who rank the top 500 per platform and will fluctuate based on how much RP you earn in-game. Alike the previous series, player progression will restart twice now thanks to the added Splits system. Excitingly, these two ranked matchmaking will be divided between World’s Edge (Feb 4 – Mar 23) and the second half on King’s Canyon (Mar 24 – May 5).
Thanking those who played Apex Legends in the first year since the launch, Respawn will be rewarding players with a Year 1 Origami Flyer Charm, Year 1 badge, and gift 10K XP each day for the first week Assimilation arrives.
Do you plan on dropping back into Apex Legends for this new season?
Apex Legends Season 4 will commence on February 4, 2020 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
