For what Nintendo’s internal developer Retro Studios have been busy developing for the past few years have been left in the dark since the release of Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze back in 2014. With the acceptation of the title receiving a port for Nintendo Switch last year, for a true project from the Texas-based studio, it has not been detailed specifically what they are currently working on.

As we already know just previously that Retro took the responsibility of the highly anticipated Metroid Prime 4 and is at the helm of the game’s development following the decision to restart the project from scratch after failing to meet their expectations. But now more recently, it looks that we might have our first glimpse of what the studio has under their belt, by accident.

With former Nintendo of America CEO Reggie Fils-Aime officially retiring from Nintendo after his 15 year career at the company, he finally created his own Twitter account which sprouted over 100,000 followers in the first day alone. One of Fils-Aime’s tweets are images of some of the cool knickknacks that he had around his office that he showcased during his cleanup on the final day at Nintendo. One image in particular is a gift from Retro which features the studio’s characters with Reggie in the center: but looking in the left-hand corner, you can see one is intentionally blocked by Fils-Aime.

Hidden behind the Metal Mario Amiibo is some sort of robot-like figure that is standing next to Diddy Kong as their metallic appendage is peaking off to the left. This is where countless fans on Twitter throughout the thread are hypothesizing that this unknown animatronic character could possibly be from the new title that Retro Studios have been keeping under wraps these few years.

For anything concrete to confirm if this is the possible new character for the studio’s new IP is currently undetailed as neither Nintendo nor Retro Studios have verified if this is true or not, leaving this to be yet another rumor as of yet.

What do you think the hiding character might be?
