Developer Sucker Punch Productions has remained a staple studio under PlayStation for decades. But, while the Ghost series is admired, other IPs are left in the shadow of its newest franchise. In 2022, it was confirmed by the team that neither Infamous nor Sly Cooper are in active development. This came after the renewal of the Infamous domain which did spike excitement & hopes for a new game then.
And, time has moved forward at Sucker Punch Productions. Now entering its second installment with Ghost of Yotei, the chances of a new project is looking less likely than ever before. In one comment from leadership this past fall, the current developer makeup of the team would share little excitement if a new game was greenlit. Not to mention the exit of veteran Brian Fleming, the developer very little what it was over a decade ago.
Now fast forward to May this month, new rumors have begun swirling on Infamous and what could potentially come for the series. According to Video Game Chronicle’s Jordan Middler, a new game is coming internally at PlayStation. “I’m under the impression that there is an Infamous thing happening somewhere else in PlayStation at the minute,” he said on the official podcast recently.
But in a follow-up speaking to Greg Miller on the Kinda Funny Podcast, he elaborated more on his initial comment. You can watch the segment of the show in the video below:
“I was told at some point that an Infamous project is in development somewhere at PlayStation. Now you may notice that this is not reported as a story on VGC, because it’s not something I can stand up with two sources. But you know, you hear things on the wind, and I feel like my wind has a pretty good track record,” Middler elaborated during the show.
“I have absolutely no idea. When I was told about it I fully assumed the person was referring to a remake of 1 and 2. That wasn’t told to me directly but that was very much implied. But yeah, obviously Sony could just bin it off. It might have been something that started and never got any legs or anything like that. But that’s at least what I’ve been told.”
For now, it is encouraged to take the claim with extreme caution and hesitancy. There is no strong foundation beside internal whispers that the game is to materialize. This is similar to the previous claims we saw in 2024 for Gravity Rush 2 being ported to PC & PlayStation 5 then. You can read the full report by heading here.
