Shenmue To Get An Anime Series, Crunchyroll Announces

For those who might not have been following this past week or so, it was told that Sega’s Shenmue series is expected to receive a new announcement sometime in the “next few weeks”. That being told by recognized industry insider Dusk Golem on Twitter, they spared that the details that will be unveiled will not correlate to the current entry – Shenmue 3 – arriving to newer platforms.

Now this week we learn that happened to be the case after all. That is due to the announcement taking place during this recent Virtual Crunchyroll Expo where the streaming platform disclosed that the series is receiving an anime adaptation. The firm did so by sharing a poster of what can be expected for the new project.

While Crunchyroll does not provide direct details on the production regarding the context of the animated series, it does disclose some information on the hands involved with the show. One being that this will be another collaborative project between Crunchyroll and Adult Swim offering 13 episodes in its first season.

Additionally, Cruncyroll also reveals that Chikara Sakurai, responsible for Mahimoji Rurumo and One-Punch Man Season 2, will be helming the new project. Even more, Shenmue creator Yu Suzuki will be tasked as an Executive Producer for the new series underway. Howbeit, the trail ends there as more details will be spared later on.

Recently, Netflix shipped the first season of Dragon’s Dogma on its streaming library. The Capcom series marks the third project with Netflix alongside the upcoming Devil May Cry anime and Resident Evil live-action series. You can watch the first trailer for Dragon’s Dogma by heading here.
