The studio behind 2012’s indie adventure title Journey thatgamecompany released a new project in mid 2019 for Apple iOS called Sky: Children of Light. Following in the shoes of the titular Children of Light, you tread across the seven realms above the clouds and upon your journey save ancestor spirits who reward you with cosmetic abilities that change how the game plays.
Unlike other traditional mobile titles you would expect on the App Store, Sky instead offers an in-depth multiplayer aspect which you can utilize to unlock new abilities and features to interact with the people you find when playing. While Apple users are still enjoying the new passage developed by thatgamecompany, the team reveals that new platforms can expect the game in the coming months.
According to an interview with the studios Creative Director Jenova Chen, the title is expected to arrive to the competing Android platform atop of speaking about additional consoles to follow suit.
Our game runs on iPad, on PC, it will run on console in the future. Android within a month. In the future, it’s going to cross all platforms. And whether you have PlayStation or Switch we will support crossplay.
Dissecting his wording when discussing the cross-play aspect of Sky, he states that the title will “cross all platforms,” leaving the assumption that even Xbox could expect the game as well. Although mentioning only Switch and PlayStation in the his conversation, there is room to suspect a potential release for Microsoft’s platform also. Seeing that the developer is beginning to strand away from Sony’s line of hardware, Sky would be the first title from thatgamecompany to hit an Xbox console.
Supporting the team’s venture to other platforms, it was just last year that we learned that the studio’s most noteworthy entry Journey arrived to both iOS as well as PC. With Sky being the first self-published title, this only validates the possibility that the game could eventually hit Xbox sometime later on.
