With each console generation, developer Playdead ships out an arthouse release that continues to be talked about by the time the next release hits. Last we heard from the team was Inside, and before that with Limbo. Currently, the firm is working on a third-person, adventure title. That is according to a job listing for the developer discovered last year.
In a separate report, Epic Games revealed to establish a publishing deal with the developer on a new, unnamed project. While it is certain the game is in development, it is not clarified if this is the same referenced game or a new IP altogether. Elsewhere, co-founder Dino Patti revealed at last year’s Xbox + Bethesda Showcase a new project, Somerville. The game was originally slated for a 2022 release.
According to an abrupt reveal on Thursday, Somerville is to launch next month. Noted, the game will be a day-and-date release for Xbox Game Pass as well. You can watch the launch trailer in the video below:
“In the wake of an otherworldly invasion that’s left the world in catastrophe, it’s time for you to explore a rich and atmospheric world, along with the intimate repercussions of large scale conflict, on your way to making your family whole again,” developer Jumpship gives for the game’s synopsis.
Adding, “In this original IP, led by director Chris Olsen and built in collaboration with ex-Playdead CEO and co-founder Dino Patti, players can expect to encounter a hand-crafted narrative experience set across a perilous rural landscape.”
Are you excited for Somerville finally releasing?
Somerville arrives on November 15, 2022 for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
