When many of us who play video games think of exclusive titles on PlayStation’s platform, we look towards The Last of Us or Uncharted as an example. But there is one that is oddly enough only available on Sony’s system, MLB The Show. For the sake of a baseball game, it is unique to see the game only available on one platform while the others make use for other smaller titles like RBI Baseball and Super Mega Baseball.

But now that might not have to be the case if your are looking for a genuine game with proper licensing as both Sony Interactive Entertainment along with Major League Baseball announced that the series will be breaking its exclusive ties with PlayStation with the next slew of installments in the coming years.

In an agreement between the publisher, license holder, and developer San Diego Studio, the trio have extended the initial contract to continue creating more games.

The historic expansion of the long-standing partnerships will bring MLB The Show, for the first time ever, to additional console platforms beyond PlayStation platforms as early as 2021.

From the looks of the prolonged partnership between the three parties, Sony Interactive Entertainment decided to continue the contract despite having to publish future titles for other platforms. While the company is transparent about developing for systems that are not first-party, it seems that they did not want to jeopardize what is already settled with the MLB.

As for what platforms specifically, it is assumed this points towards Xbox of course, PC, and Nintendo Switch. Upon the breaking of this story, both Microsoft and Nintendo have shared the report which implies the support to the platform in the coming future. Regarding the year long wait, that is most likely due to the prior contract being only suited to PlayStation for the remainder of this console generation, meaning that upcoming hardware will be the first to see MLB The Show along with current generation consoles.

What platform do you plan on picking up MLB The Show for in the future?

MLB The Show 20 is scheduled to launch on March 17, 2020 for PlayStation 4.
