According to Bloomberg, Sony Interactive Entertainment is in the process of developing a portable console that will play PS5 games. The console is aimed at expanding PlayStation’s market presence and will compete with Nintendo and Microsoft in portable gaming.

The portable PlayStation 5 is years away, according to the outlet’s sources and it’s still possible that Sony could cancel the idea entirely. Last year, Sony released the PlayStation Portal which has exceeded any expectations the company had for the device. The Portal was intended to function as a standalone device without the need for a PS5 console, but obviously, with the way the PS Portal was released, you will need a PS5.

While Microsoft hasn’t released a handheld console yet, Phil Spencer confirmed an Xbox handheld is being developed.
