Spelunk 1 & Spelunk 2 Ships For Nintendo Switch Later This August

As indie games go, the pipeline for new and exciting release come and go. But, some titles evolve and a sequel comes along for the beloved IP. In that sense, this situation comes to Mossmouth’s Spelunky when Spelunky 2 was announced. Unfortunately, the game was revealed too soon with the developer later going on to push the game’s release later into 2020.

However, despite the setback, the title’s later release for September 15 did not drastically affect how players received the game. In fact, the game slowly climbed to becoming quite an acclaimed release. So much so that Spelunky 2 was even nominated for Best Indie for 2020’s The Game Awards at the time.

In a new announcement last week, Spelunk 1 & Spelunk 2 are both to debut for Nintendo Switch later on this month. You can watch the reveal trailer in the video below:

“With Spelunky and Spelunky 2, brave your way through treacherous tunnels and caverns, outfitted with the survival supplies you find along the way. Featuring dense worlds teeming with secrets, surprises and slapstick hilarity, each time you play promises danger and delight. Watch out for leprechauns, ghosts, flying fish and galloping turkeys as you explore the unknown,” the overview reads from the announcement post.

Among other loved releases coming to Nintendo Switch, developer WayForward previously delivered 2000’s Shantae to the Nintendo eShop. Originally released on the Nintendo Game Boy is now available in a remastered release for Nintendo Switch. You can read the full report by heading here.
