While the plans over at THQ Nordic continues to progress beyond most other major publishers due to the sheer number of acquisitions and studio purchases that continue to go underway, the firm surely is looking to expand its presence with the SpongeBob SquarePants video game IP. With the recent remake that is SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle For Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated, it is clear that the publisher is eager to see Purple Lamp Studios continue the momentum.

In that, it was not too much longer after the release of the 2003 remake that THQ Nordic announced it will be outright acquiring the Austrian game studio alongside nearly a dozen other developers at the time as well. Hinted in a more recent announcement, fan-favorite properties are to be revisited at the coming 10th Anniversary Livestream for THQ Nordic being held this week.

Then, it was suggested a new SpongeBob SquarePants title is to be unveiled when stating “We hope you are ready, kids!” for the showcase later on. During the presentation, THQ Nordic unveiled SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake. You can watch the announcement trailer in the video below:

“Wish-granting Mermaid’s Tears in the hands of SpongeBob and Patrick… What could possibly go wrong? Sure, the very fabric holding the very universe very together could come very undone, opening up portals into Wishworlds full of knights, cowboys, pirates, and prehistoric snails,” the game’s overview reads on its website. “But that’s nothing everyone’s favorite Sponge can’t handle – with the right cosmic costume! Everybody do the Cosmic Shake!”

Gathered from the description of the new release, The Cosmic Shake appears to encapsulate many references of the beloved Nickelodeon show with early episodes and some recent scenarios to be translated to the full release. Most interesting is how the team capitalized on Sweet Victory in the reveal trailer better than the 53rd NFL Super Bowl.

Are you excited for the next mainline SpongeBob SquarePants game?

SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake is listed for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
