While we look to be on the verge of a possible exodus of new details regarding the coming PlayStation 5, a new report has emerged in the meantime which shares to quench the thirst of eager followers for the new console. According to Eurogamer, Sony has instructed that by mid July – all titles certified for PlayStation 4 must also be properly worked to support its succeeding iteration.

Essentially, teams must conjure a build that will be formatted for both the current and upcoming PlayStation consoles following July 13. The new detail is said to be accessed on the PlayStation internal partner website where Eurogamer verifies that to be the case after witnessing the new update on the registered domain. While the feature happened to be added in a recent update for PlayStation 4 developer kits last month, the news comes into play as Sony themselves contacted studios on the matters.

Already expecting that this was a given for first-party teams under Sony Interactive Entertainment, now the same is presumed for the expansive wing for third-party studios and independent developers to follow suit later this summer.

Expanding on the defining term for ‘compatible’ deemed for the PlayStation 5, Eurogamer elaborates that software submitted can only be determined for the new hardware if the same accessible elements are present on both systems with no problems at face value. Adding on, Sony urges software already established on PlayStation 4 prior to July 13th does not require process for compatibility, but would recommend teams do so if any future patch or update is inserted.

Going on the basis of the new initiative, this would suggest that the approaching Ghost of Tsushima from Sucker Punch Productions would be required for PlayStation 5 compatibility. While the submission must be entered months in advance, the game is a product of a first-party team requiring the title by definition to be accessible on both platforms. It is also assumed the game could face a full PlayStation 5 version as well following the systems release later this holiday season

Earlier in 2020, Sony announced that the ‘top 100’ PlayStation 4 title would be preserved for PlayStation 5 backwards compatibility at launch. The firm later went to cover extra ground by stating that most titles currently available on the platform will eventually be accessible through the feature in the future. Now, Sony plans to further enforce that notion for titles that have yet to arrive for PlayStation 4.

Just yesterday, Microsoft announced that testing for Xbox Series X backwards compatibility is going excellently as “thousands” of titles are prepared to ship for the next-generation system from Xbox/Xbox 360/Xbox One. You can read the full report by heading here.
