Sales for Subnautica 2 in Early Access have reached new heights very fast. The game has now surpassed two million copies sold within 12 hours of release, developer Unknown Worlds Entertainment announced.
The Early Access version of Subnautica 2 reached 1 million copies sold in just its first hour. So far on Steam, the game has continued to peak at 467,582 concurrent players with over 200,000 playing consistently. It’s already way ahead of the all-time concurrent player count of the original Subnautica, which sits at a peak of 51,156, which was achieved over 8 years ago.
Subnautica 2 releases in Early Access for Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store on May 14. It’s also available to play via Xbox Game Pass. When the game fully releases, it will become available for Switch 2 and PS5.
Going into this weekend, the sales and player numbers are expected to rise even further.
Subnautica 2 is the official sequel to the genre-defining Subnautica series, which has sold more than 18.5 million copies worldwide. Set on a new alien world within the Subnautica universe, the sequel introduces new ecosystems, enhanced visuals powered by Unreal Engine 5, and for the first time in the series, optional cooperative play for up to four players, allowing players to survive and explore together.
