After the massive success of the first Super Mario Bros. Movie a few years back, it was not a surprise that Nintendo & Illumination/Universal would be pursuing a second film in the series. Previously, it was leaked that the next entry for the silver screen would be titled ‘Super Mario World’ as it expands on the conclusion of the first motion picture.
In the same vein, it was recently uncovered another film of that universe would be underway as well. It was reported that a film circling around Donkey Kong would also be in the pipeline at Illumination alongside the Super Mario Bros. Movie follow-up. But, recent information also shifted things around for the sequel. This week, details revealed that Universal trademarked ‘The Super Mario Galaxy Movie’ which leaker @Kurakasis has corroborated then.
Now during the Nintendo Direct on Friday, it was revealed that Super Mario Galaxy alongside its sequel Super Mario Galaxy 2 are shipping for Nintendo Switch next month. Incorporating a two-game bundle, the titles will also be available purchase separately on the Nintendo eShop. You can watch the trailer in the video below:
“Travel the cosmos with Mario in Super Mario Galaxy, then board Starship Mario in Super Mario Galaxy 2 with Yoshi as your companion! Both titles feature improved UI, the option to play with button and stick or motion controls, an in-game music player, new Storybook content and enhanced resolution. Plus, a free update will be available on Nintendo Switch 2 that adds 4K resolution support for both titles.”
In both the announcement as well as the press release reveals that Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 are releasing for Nintendo Switch physically. Although compatibility is available for Nintendo Switch 2, there will not be a featured release for the newer platform aside from a free graphical update. Similarly, there are no promises for an update to Super Mario 3D Allstars.
