Who remembers Outlast? The IP that reignited the horror genre last console generation on Xbox One & PlayStation 4; the series even received a sequel in 2017 – Outlast II. But, what is developer Red Barrels up to now? Well, the game studio did share it is working on a new Cold War-set multiplayer experience dubbed ‘The Outlast Trials’. The biggest takeaway is this will be the first online experience for the IP.
But, what wasn’t considered was the wait time since the original announcement happened in 2019. It was last August that the team shared a blanked release window for 2022. But, hope was shortly on the horizon. In a slew of announcements from Gamescom Opening Night Live host Geoff Keighley, he confirmed The Outlast Trials will be present at the showcase on Tuesday.
And like he said, Red Barrels revealed a new trailer for the game. You can watch the new footage in the video below:
“Set in the height of the Cold War era, players take on the role of test subjects abducted by the shadowy Murkoff Corporation. Imprisoned in a secret Murkoff facility, players will be thrust into a series of physical and mental ordeals, tormented by iconic characters, and challenged alone or in teams to survive with their sanity intact,” the synopsis for the game reads.
More exciting is the fact that a closed beta for the game is to take place just ahead of Halloween this fall. Currently, sign-ups are available for the game has yet to commence, but the scheduling for the playtest is scheduled between October 28th to November 1st. It is expected the online demo will be available for PC only.
