The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was originally released in May 2015 on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. It then received a port to Nintendo Switch in 2019, becoming one of the biggest third-party games on the platform at the time.
CD Projekt Red eventually provided post-launch content for The Witcher 3, but the game has been complete for years. According to a new report, CD Projekt Red could be releasing a surprise expansion for the game in the near future.
Polish video game insider Borys Niespielak has claimed the studio is working on a paid expansion and says this information has been confirmed by multiple sources. The insider pointed out a statement that was in a CD Projekt Red earnings call:
“Given our current progress, there is a chance that new content hinted upon in recent calls and reports may see release in the coming year, having an impact on our results and increasing the likelihood of achieving the earnings condition for the first stage of the incentive program.”
Current reports claim the paid expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will release in May 2026. However, the studio has not provided any official statements, and the rumor does not share what type of content this would include.
Adding content to the ten-year-old game could be an ideal move as The Witcher 4 is still years away. CDPR said it isn’t releasing until after 2026. The Witcher has been gaining more popularity thanks to its Netflix series that just received its newest season in October.
