There have been reports lately that Ubisoft was planning to shut down its latest free-to-play FPS, XDefiant. The report stated the game would shut down after Season 4, but it turns out that is not true.
Executive Producer at Ubisoft San Francisco, Mark Rubin made a statement on X (Twitter) stating there are no plans to shut down XDefiant after Season 4. He also said he has been in meetings going back to a week ago discussing its Year 2 plans. The main focus for the development team is improving the technical experience including netcode and adding more content for Seasons 3 and 4.
To be crystal clear there are NO plans to shut down after season 4. I've literally been in meetings as of last week to discuss our Year 2 plans. But, right now we are super focused on improving the technical experience (which includes netcode) and adding more content for Seasons…

There were reports in August that XDefiant’s player count had declined quickly to the point it was struggling to maintain 20,000 concurrent players. When XDefiant released in May there was a lot of excitement as it reached over 11 million players across all platforms in its first month.
The content that has been implemented into the game seems to not be enough as the population started to decline. In our review, we state that XDefiant is an average first-person shooter and there was nothing that really set it apart from what’s already out there.
