Although the ongoing Rainbow Six Siege fueling of content ceases to halt anytime soon, Ubisoft is also working to deliver more opportunity for players to experience the game through different avenues. For one, cross-play has been a large demand for the series over the past couple of years. Previously, Ubisoft Montreal did comment that it is investigating the possibility later on.
Additionally, Ubisoft went on to work at the next-generation version for the game. Back in December, Xbox Series X|S & PlayStation 5 received upgrades for Rainbow Six Siege. Other initiatives on the table for the game also glances over at free-to-play: Ubisoft Montreal goes on to disclose great consideration for the feature, however, has yet to determine if that will be the future for the series.
During Ubisoft Forward on Saturday, cross-platform play has been announced for the game. PC/Stadia/Luna are expecting the feature on June 30th whilst supported consoles are expecting the feature next year in 2022. You can watch the segment of the livestream in the video below:
Ubisoft Montreal also goes to elaborate that cross-progression is to be prepared for when the respected updated goes live. “From this date, players on PC, Stadia, and Amazon Luna will be able to queue for matches together and have unified account progression across those platforms with the launch of crossplay and cross-progression on PC and cloud-based platforms.
“Then, in early 2022, players on Xbox and PlayStation platforms will be able to team up and face off as crossplay comes to consoles, and cross-progression launches across all platforms.” In relevance to Rainbow Six Siege, spin-off experience ‘Rainbow Six Extraction’ was also revealed to ship this fall at Ubisoft Forward.
