Although the majority of the PlayStation 4 pipeline arrived to deliver to its users throughout its lifespan last-generation, one anticipated release has still yet to arrive to the platform. In that, one exclusive is still in development which was originally paved for PlayStation 4: WiLD. From team Wild Sheep Studio – a team formed by Rayman creator & Ubisoft veteran Michel Ancel, the project was unveiled dating back to 2014.
However, uncertainty is brought to the project as Ancel has since 2020 departed from the video game industry. In that, Ancel was faced with a bevy of allegations claiming he disenfranchised employees at Ubisoft Montpellier that is still working on Beyond Good and Evil 2. At the time, Ubisoft confirmed Ancel was being investigated on behalf of his actions as he exits the industry.
Amidst the flinging claims, now it appears that WiLD is no more following the departure of Ancel. In a recent GrubbSnax episode over on Giant Bomb, that Video Game Chronicles transcribed, it is said that PlayStation 4 WiLD is not in active development.
I can confirm that game is fully done. There is no Wild anymore… Wild is dead. I can confirm that game is fully done. There is no Wild anymore… Wild is dead. I don’t know what happened with that, but they were like, ‘we’re not working on [Wild] anymore, but we do have a lot of talent here, so maybe we can work on some stuff.
Although the team is still established over in its Occitanie, France studio, it does not appear there is a shift in the firm closing shop. Upon further dissection of the developer’s LinkedIn shares that the studio still holds close to employees at the time of reporting. However, job postings for the team currently appears to be gone from the page.
Previously, there did happen to be a line of PlayStation exclusives that are being delayed on PlayStation 5 and now PlayStation 4. Both presumed to ship in 2021 – God of War: Ragnarok & Gran Turismo 7 – are now said to arrive next year. Atop of that, Sony Interactive Entertainment President & CEO Jim Ryan verified the games will come to last-generation hardware as well.
In a later statement from Bloomberg Tech’s Jason Schreier, it was said that the lineage of delays will continue over at PlayStation. He told that Guerrilla Games’ Horizon Forbidden West is the next game to expect a later forecast into 2022. You can read the full report by heading here.
