In a recent interview on IGN’s Unlocked podcast, Xbox head Phil Spencer spoke on Xbox and Microsoft Studios’ partnership with Alan Wake developer Remedy Entertainment for their joint effort Quantum Break which launched in early 2016 on Xbox One and Windows 10 PCs. The game was one of the first to test partial implementation of the current Xbox Play Anywhere cross-device progress sync, as well as a large departure for both studio teams in the style of game produced.
In Spencer’s interview, he reveals that Xbox “don’t have a deal with Remedy.” But he continued, saying that “when you start working with a studio … and once you’ve figured out how to work together, I think Playground is a good example of this, you get into a rhythm” with Playground being Playground Games, a co-developer along with Microsoft’s Turn 10 Studios, on the popular open-world Forza Horizon series. Spencer’s remarks are great to hear, as studios working together regularly brings great, new, and unique games to market such as Quantum Break. Sadly, Quantum Break faced various performance issues and had an online requirement to download and play the live-action video scene sections of the game and didn’t see success like Forza Horizon has.
While Spencer doesn’t make specific mention of any future efforts with Remedy, he remarks “I’d love to work with Remedy again.” Since we have yet to hear any rumblings of a sequel to Remedy’s acclaimed Alan Wake title, we don’t know what kind of effort to expect from the team in the future, but we’ll keep you updated on anything we hear. Until then, be sure to stay tuned to Rectify Gaming for the latest.
