Engagement for Like a Dragon/Yakuza continues to ramp up towards the tail end of this year. Already, the series kicked off the year on a high note with Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth – a game that Rectify Gaming scored 10/10 in our review for the title. Additionally, its being adapted into a live-action TV series which airs in two part on Amazon Prime this fall.
In terms of games, Yakuza Kiwami is set to release on Nintendo Switch. After the poor response to the original two games on Wii U, the 2016 remake is now set to release on the Nintendo Switch roughly a decade later. Not only that, but reveal for its next game is set to arrive in September. RGG Studio confirmed that Tokyo Game Show will unveil the next project. Simultaneously, Sega trademarked ‘Yakuza Wars’ indicating the identity of the new game.
Now weeks before the event in Tokyo, Japan, Yakuza Wars appears to have leaked online. Spotted by @Knoebelbroet on X, the official Facebook page for the title has went live ahead of the announcement set for this month. Artwork for the game has been revealed including a description for the new game too.
“Sega’s first officially authorized mobile game, Dragon Among Men, is a new classic gangster-themed masterpiece for mobile phones, creating innovative strategic war gameplay. Here, you can fight side by side with classic characters such as Kiryu Kazuma, Kasuga Ichiban, and Majima Goro, and write your own legendary story in the underworld world,” @Wario64 on X translates.
The mobile title is also being published by BB Games. Previously, we’ve witnessed a similar format title for Yakuza in the past. Yakuza Online which released in Japan for mobile devices was a card collecting game which bridged many of the titles into one core experience. One plot from that game was a focus on Ryuji Goda as a playable character which was previously reported to be a planned game back in 2021. You can read the full report by heading here.
