2D Prequel God Of War: Sons Of Sparta Out Now For PlayStation 5

While the God of War series is still awaiting its next major installment, there have been some updates for the IP. Over at Amazon Prime Video, the live-action series is moving forward. Word previously reported on the TV show to be filming in spring later this year. Additionally, it confirmed actors for the series like Ryan Hurst (Sons of Anarchy, The Walking Dead) & Teresa Palmer (Warm Bodies) to star in the new adaptation.

As for the games, there has been less chatter from Sony Interactive Entertainment. The PlayStation firm did acknowledge that the franchise has generated the most engagement for any IP on the platform. But the only other talking point surrounding God of War publicly came back in September for the ‘DualSense Wireless Controller – God of War 20th Anniversary Limited Edition’ in anticipation for the series’ approaching birthday.

Now at the PlayStation State of Play, it was revealed a new prequel 2D adventure from Mega Cat Studios is here with God of War: Sons of Sparta. The game is available now and you can watch the trailer in the video below:

“God of War Sons of Sparta is a 2D action platformer with a canon story set in Kratos’ youth during his harsh training at the Agoge alongside his brother Deimos. From the writing team at Santa Monica Studio that brought you God of War (2018) and God of War Ragnarök, Sons of Sparta is a tale of duty, honor, and brotherhood featuring TC Carson who reprises his role the first time in over a decade as the adult version of Kratos, our story’s narrator!  

“God of War’s kinetic combat has found a home in a brand-new genre. Kratos will learn deadly skills using his spear and shield, as well as harness powerful divine artifacts known as the Gifts of Olympus to take on a wide array of foes. Sons of Sparta features the return of iconic classics recreated in 2D with stunning hand-drawn pixel animation, as well as a host of new creatures to the franchise inspired by the rich, untapped facets of Greek mythology brought to life by the retro experts at Mega Cat Studios.”
