After nearly a year-long wait, publisher Square Enix announced this past May that the coming and anticipated return for Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles would be taking place this coming August. This announcement comes after the previous push of the game from its initial winter launch timeframe to the later summer release we are familiar with now. At the time of reporting, the team shared that the extra time added would be put towards making the “final adjustments” on the remastered project.
And now with just a little over a month until the release of the 2003 entry in the series, there is a new report that fans might want to hear. In a recent tweet from the Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles PR account, it is revealed that the game will only be playable with an online connection.
While it is presumed the game would need online to access the promised cross-play between all supported systems, it is a surprise that the initially intended local play feature will not be functional for the remastered version of the game. Thanks to @Sephazon for translating the post.
“As we have introduced in official broadcasts, this product does not support offline multiplayer,” the tweets reads after being fed through an online translator. “For development reasons, it is necessary to select either offline or online, so we selected online multiplayer so that more people can play.”
Taken from the translation, the team discloses that the decision was made solely on the restrictions established from internal “development reasons”. Additionally, the team as of reporting has not shared if there will be plans to implement offline play/ local play to Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered following its release later next month.
