Square Enix Officially Announces Final Fantasy XVI

This past few days, rumor had it that the next Final Fantasy title is on the horizon for an announcement. While not much was gathered regarding the context of the newest installment from Square Enix, the tip that nodded to the potential reveal came from a finding on Twitter. It was that an account was created with the handle reading ‘FFXVI_JP’ signifying that a reveal would be taking place.

Of course, reflecting on the relationship between both Square Enix and Sony Interactive Entertainment it was expected that the announcement would be held at this week’s PlayStation 5 showcase for the world to witness. With that, the show was kicked off with a full-length trailer of the new game.

Following the trailer being broadcasted live, both Producer Naoki Yoshida and Director Hiroshi Takai spared minimal details on the new project for the Final Fantasy franchise. Such being that the team behind Final Fantasy XVI gradually swelled into a “full-fledge unit”, as Yoshida would like to describe it as. And that the footage spared today is merely a crumb of the full cake that the firm is planning to serve later on.

“From the establishment of an all new development environment, to learning the ins-and-outs of the PlayStation 5, the team and I have taken on countless challenges during our journey to bring you the sixteenth chapter in the storied Final Fantasy franchise,” Takai offers on the new title. “And though we’re pouring our hearts and souls into this project each and every day, it may still be some time before we can get it into your hands. However, I promise it will be worth the wait!”

Before fans begin to map together what is to come next from today’s announcement, Yoshida announces that the next major announcement will not be taking place until 2021 at the earliest. So anticipating any forecast for more Final Fantasy XVI news will leave you disappointed. The same can also be said for more information on Final Fantasy XIV as well.
