While the planet is continuing to be shaped by the adjustments to better contain the spread of the novel coronavirus for majority of this year, the video game industry has adopted the ability to adapt to the change of pace with in-person shows being negated from the equation. With entities such as the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) being shelved for 2020, the question has been inquired regarding other notable shows arriving later in the year.

One being Gamescom: the show originally set to take place in-person this August was later swapped with a virtual event to showcase the next shipment of projects to hit the market. In that, even the Gamescom Opening Night Live show took a new approach to the change of scenery. While not being held in-person, host Geoff Keighley put the show on all cylinders as it kicked off an amazing show for its second year.

Said by Keighley himself back in August, this recent Gamescom Opening Night Live would stand as a catalyst for an even more anticipating show for this coming The Game Awards. And now, the lid has finally been turned as the annual awards ceremony will be taking place on December 10.

In addition to the new chapter for The Game Awards officially slated for the second week of December, host Geoff Keighley made one special announcement in regards to the awards for the coming show. He unveiled a new category: Innovation in Accessibility. It is given to those who push the medium to offer more variables allowing users of all fronts the ability to play games.

“Recognizing developers that are pushing the medium forward by adding features, technology and content to help games be played and enjoyed by an even wider audience,” Keighley wrote in the tweet. Of course, the expected categories such as Best Score, Best Art Direction, and Game of the Year will be showcased as well with the nominations readied closer to the events airing.
