For many Silent Hill fans, it is no secret that the highly-anticipated Silent Hills never truly materialized. And while series lead Hideo Kojima went on to use the project as a catalyst for what is later known as Death Stranding, the only remnant of the project is the playtest simply titled ‘P.T.’. For many that are aware, the game is unique to PlayStation 4 users that installed it before the client’s delisting in April 2015.

However, as we enter the next-generation of console hardware, many presume that the game will be playable on PlayStation 5: the console supports backwards compatibility, so it makes sense for it to be playable. And the game was, at least, for a brief moment. Michael McWhertor of Polygon shared to be able to play the game fine when first receiving the review unit for PlayStation 5.

But shortly after, the game was later found to be branded a “Playable on PS4” title which refrains the user to promptly launch the game. Surely it comes off very odd on the scenario that the title would be unsupported for backwards compatibility after being available just days before. Howbeit, Sony does relieve some clarification on the matters.

Upon being contacted by Polygon, Sony Interactive Entertainment spills that the change was not dished by the firm, but instead tells that it was a doing by Konami. Sony explains that P.T. being removed from the backwards compatible list “was a publisher decision.”

And although the game will remain to PlayStation 4, for now, the spirit might live on in another form. Back in August of this year during the Comic-Con@Home virtual event, Silent Hills lead Junji Ito told to potentially be working on a new project with Hideo Kojima. Are you upset P.T. is not playable on PlayStation 5?
