Looking to the newest line of console hardware, it is expected that the coming repertoire of titles releasing in the current console generation arrive with all the bells and whistles. So elements like 60 frames per second, HDR support, 4K resolution output, and raytracing are the largest bullet points. But, only being two months since the release of the latest Xbox & PlayStation, we are still in that grey area for the next-generation.

For now, the hottest games either release uniquely to the new consoles or receive versions for the latest consoles and its predecessors. With that, expected attributes for the newer systems are left to possibly be exempt due to multiple versions. However, studios continue in the post-launch phase to implement missing features.

For the sake of Hitman 3, developer IO Interactive reveals that the team is working to integrate raytracing support for Xbox Series X|S when speaking with the firm this week.

It’s great that the GPU in the Series X|S has hardware support for Ray-Tracing. We’ve already started working on RT technology for the renderer in our Glacier engine, and once that’s deemed ready for prime time, we’ll definitely bring it to the Series X|S hardware.

Maurizio de Pascale, IO Interactive Chief Technology Officer

Most surprising from the discovery is that Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S consoles are the only confirmed retail systems to expect support for raytracing. But, Hitman 3 is a PlayStation-marketed release, so there is a very big likeliness that the PlayStation 5, most likely, will receive the same attention in a future update.

Additionally, the team also issues that the raw power of the Xbox Series X|S will work well in future tense for future projects. “We’re confident that the Xbox Series X|S consoles will really enable a new generation of cinematic experiences in which gameplay and storytelling blend seamlessly, with loading screens and waiting time finally relegated to bed-time stories to scare our kids.”

Elsewhere this week, IO Interactive presses that Hitman 3 faced the “biggest digital launch in franchise history.” You can read the full report by heading here.
