While chatter has seemed to silence after the Cyberpunk craze that was kicked off by One More Level’s Ghostrunner; that does not suggest that the developer is done with the IP just yet. In actuality, the game studio is still in preparation for the title’s dedicated release for next-generation systems. While Ghostrunner is playable through backwards compatibility on Xbox Series X|S & PlayStation 5, a true version has yet to release.
Following the game’s release in October last fall, One More Level in a surprise announcement shared that Ghostrunner’s advancements does not only reside to the latest Xbox & PlayStation consoles. In that, a Nintendo Switch version is also prepared to arrive in November. Howbeit, the developer later resolved the game’s release for December a month later than promised.
Amid the work for next-gen Ghostrunner, a bidding war for the IP arose between publishers All In! Games and 505 Games. However, the financial dispute ended with 505 Games making the purchase for the Ghostrunner publishing rights for €5m. All In! Games CEO Piotr Żygadło explained the outcome of the acquisition.
“Ghostrunner quickly turned out to be huge success, which convinced [505 Games] to submit an offer — one of those ‘hard to refuse’ [offers].” Gamesindustry.biz did report that originally that 505 Games was unexpected to pay the €5m as per a statement from Żygadło, but the outlet later clarified on the comment with a follow-up from a spokesperson. “We were unable to reach a mutually beneficial agreement at the time.”
Aside from the next-generation ports for Ghostrunner, it is also reported that One More Level is preparing a version for Amazon-owned Luna and three add-ons for the title. Are you excited for the future of Ghostrunner following the purchase?
Ghostrunner is out now for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, and Nintendo Switch; coming to Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and Luna.
