Rewinding back to this past January, developer Bloober Team shipped Xbox Series X|S exclusive The Medium. Alongside a release on PC simultaneously, the Observer game studio produced a new thrilling experience that stands to succeed the likes of Konami’s Silent Hill. Even composer for the Japanese franchise Akira Yamaoka is also responsible for composing the score for The Medium as well.
Questioning the lengths the game is taking early on, many questioned why exactly the game is only unique to the next-generation Xbox Series X|S. Virtually every other game – including Halo Infinite – is coming to the former Xbox One. But, Bloober Team explained that the capabilities of the new machine is only achievable on said hardware.
So that is likely to apply to PlayStation 5 when it arrives to the platform. On the Entertainment Software Ratings Board (ESRB), The Medium is listed for PlayStation 5.
This is an adventure horror game in which players assume the role of a medium investigating an abandoned communist resort in Poland. As players explore dilapidated buildings, they can transition to a spiritual, hellish realm to help solve puzzles and interact with characters.
Some interactions unlock sequences that depict instances of violence: a character shooting a girl (off-screen); a character beating and choking a bound man from a first-person view; a man being pummeled by another character. Some areas depict large blood stains on the walls and floors; one sequence depicts a bathtub full of blood.
This does not mark the first game to be hopping uniquely from Xbox to PlayStation. Previously, it was discovered that Tomas Sala’s The Falconeer is coming to PlayStation this August. Even earlier on, Cuphead also received the same fate when a PlayStation 4 version ultimately showed its face last year.
But, that is not to say PlayStation 4 games are hitting Xbox. While it has yet to be announced, Godfall already exceeded its six-month exclusivity contract with Sony Interactive Entertainment. It is very likely the Counterplay Games title arrives to Xbox in the coming months.
In terms of when players can anticipate the announcement to be made, this E3 might be a close call. The only possible window, if so, is at Summer Game Fest where Sony Interactive Entertainment is said to be attending. You can read the full report by heading here.
