While many Halo fans are aware of the drought for a new Halo game is tough – now more than five years since the release of Halo 5: Guardians – developer 1047 Games went to quench the thirst for a game to fill that role. In that, Splitgate was created: while made on the foundation of arena shooters like the Microsoft franchise, the title also goes the extra step to incorporate a niché portal mechanic that spins the formula.
Previously, 1047 Games shipped Splitgate back in early 2019 and continued to support the game well into the heat of the COVID-19 pandemic. And now with the team coming out in one piece, the game studio is prepared to make the next announcement for the project. This summer, Splitgate is scheduled to arrive to Xbox and PlayStation.
During the IGN Expo on Friday, 1047 Games announced console versions are to be expected in late July as the game goes free-to-play on the platforms. You can watch the announcement trailer below:
Noted, that is not just all from the announcement. Even more, Splitgate is also to be found as a cross-generation release for the latest Xbox Series X|S & PlayStation 5 as well at the end of next month. Howbeit, there is still more to this. Additionally, Splitgate will also offer cross-platform play between all systems when it ships in the latter half of July, the team revealed.
Previously, Rectify Gaming got the time to sample some Splitgate ahead of its release back at PAX East 2019. At the time, 1047 Games explained the development pipeline for Splitgate did not include battle royale in its vision. You can read the full feature by heading here.
