In most recent news, Netflix ultimate venture within the video game industry is not adapted television shows or movies, but actual video games. In that, the entertainment streaming service via its most recent financial report told that it will be planning to offer select titles on Netflix for no additional charge to its monthly subscribers.
As for plans already discussed with Netflix and video game-oriented productions, it was recently disclosed that Castlevania is spinning off of the main series that just concluded. While Season 4 marks the conclusion of the mainline animated series for Netflix, another is on the way. In a later report, it was disclosed that the new project is to follow Richter Belmont & Maria Renard through a new perspective.
Now in a new report from Variety, it is revealed that Pokémon is making its way to Netflix. However, the production is not as you might anticipate. Similar to how many responded discovering that a live-action film was on the way when Detective Pikachu was revealed, now a similar response is churning for a coming live-action Netflix series.
Not to say Detective Pikachu was a letdown commercially: the motion picture was the top-grossing video game movie until overshadowed by Sonic the Hedgehog in its 2020 three-day opening weekend. Variety discloses that Lucifer showrunner and executive producer Joe Henderson is to be responsible for the coming television series. Casting has yet to be disclosed nor an expected date to arrive.
Although the 2019 motion picture was a success, there is currently no plans for a sequel it appears. In an interview with star Justice Smith, he explains to Inverse that there is no signs of life for a follow-up film. “I would love to participate in Detective Pikachu 2,” he explains. Adding, “I don’t know if it’s going to happen.”
While there is no signs of life for a second in the live-action Pokémon film series, director Rob Letterman is underway with his own project at Netflix, and its video game-related. In that, he is leading the production for a Beyond Good & Evil live-action film. You can read the full report by heading here.
