Upon all the first-party ammunition that Sony Interactive Entertainment is firing for PlayStation 5 exclusive releases, one that appeared to fall short is Lucid Games’ Destruction AllStars. Despite the early press for the game in summer 2020 from the Geometry Wars team, the release came and went despite the hand it was given to its users. Originally, the game arrived as a free game for PlayStation Plus in February 2021 at the time.

However, following the game’s window for the monthly service, it was later revealed the pricing for the game would be reduced. Sony Interactive Entertainment explained the price tag would shift from $69.99 to $19.99 moving forward. Additionally, it appeared the team would be tackling vacant lobbies with bots in a quality of life roadmap which was revealed later on in 2021.

In a new discovery over on r/GamingLeaksandRumors, user u/Mr_WeeWoo uncovered shared new eye-opening details for the future of Destruction AllStars. According to the poster, the recent maintenance work for a title update when properly opened during that window revealed evidence suggesting the game going free-to-play. Text for challenges read as “BS_F2P_CHALLENGE_FWD” and “BS_F2P_CHALLENGE_PERFORM_A_GOLD_SKILL”.

Regarding the accuracy if Destruction AllStars is truly becoming free-to-play is left in the air currently. Although fans time and time again recommend the game welcome the business model, Lucid Games nor Sony Interactive Entertainment has commented on the discovery to be legitimate or simply a coincidence.

In terms of future Lucid Games projects, the team was reported previously to be working on an unannounced Twisted Metal game. However, reports recently told that the team has been dropped from the project with an internal PlayStation Studios team from Europe inheriting the game instead.
