Developer Bungie has been around for more than two decades and is presently on its way to be moving towards a new home under the PlayStation banner of first-party teams. Despite its run-in with Microsoft creating the Halo trilogy and later problems collaborating with Activision and fighting its way out, Bungie is the next PlayStation Studios team. The deal was announced back in January costing Sony Interactive Entertainment $3.7 billion.

However, that was not a complete $3.7 million for solely the team to transition to making PlayStation projects. In a separate financial report from corporate Sony following the arrangement plans, it was revealed more than $1 billion was used to assure employees would not depart from the team following the deal being finalized.

In a new quarterly report from corporate Sony once more recently, it is revealed the firm is confident in closing the deal by the end of this year. “This forecast is based on the assumption that the acquisition of Bungie, Inc. (“Bungie”), which is currently under review by the relevant authority, will close in the third quarter ending December 31, 2022.”

Additionally, the documentation also reveals projections for Sony’s ambitions for PlayStation 5 sales also. “Our unit sales forecast for PS5™ hardware is 18 million units, a number based on our current visibility into parts procurement,” it reads. Despite the setback in production for the new unit, the forecast is inaccurate being short of roughly 1 million reportedly selling 19 million this past quarter. But, the firm did miss its margin to sell 3 million units.

As for other plans Sony Interactive Entertainment has planned for Bungie moving forward, the firm did express interest to establish the firm’s IPs with entertainment. More specifically explore film/television and even books as well. You can read the full report by heading here.
