Ahead of the release for Arkane Studios’ Redfall, there was some prerequisites that the game was meeting to be a disaster at release. For an action-packed, first person shooter Redfall would only launch at 30hz. Despite the previous Deathloop supporting 120hz previously, this was a surprise that a promised 60hz update would come in post-launch.

Additionally, it was revealed that an online connection is required for the game: that includes even solo story mode as well. Despite the team’s DNA emphasized in single-player experiences namely, this happened to be another nail in the coffin. Howbeit, Arkane Studios did confirm that it plans to undo this decision in a later update.

Altogether, many believed this was a recipe for the closer of Arkane Studios. However, head chef of Xbox Game Studios Matt Booty confirms that is not the cast when speaking to Axios Gaming. He explained the team is hard at work in post-launch patchwork. “That is the plan right now. They are hard at work on updates and continued content for Redfall.”

Booty adds, “It was a miss, but how much of a miss? I want to support them to be able to keep working to deliver the game they had in mind.” He also explains on the response for the game on Xbox Game Pass being a “good play” sharing some retention for the game is there. This week the first major patch for the game went live featuring a slew of improvements to better the experience in Redfall.

“We’re grateful to see that millions of you have explored the quaint but dangerous open world of Redfall. Building a play space this large has been humbling to say the least. We recognize that we still have work to do, and we plan to address as much as we can, as quickly as we can,” The studio writes in the patch notes.

In regards to how the game was viewed internally, many developers at Arkane Austin did not believe in Redfall. Advertised as a hybrid of its iconic formula with multiplayer, this led to many employees departing from the team as the vision mixed with Fallout 76-pushed hugr to bring a new phenomenon orchestrated by Zenimax.
