What is one of the big surprises is how soon the release for Alan Wake II is. More than a decade since the initial title arrived from Remedy Entertainment, a fleshed out sequel is on the horizon. Originally, an October 17 release date was promised for the game. But, the Finnish developer in a swift decision went ahead to push the slated release date to October 27th instead – three weeks later.
Another eye-opening move is the choice in skipping a physical release for the game. Upon release, Alan Wake II will be unique to digital formats on PlayStation, Xbox, and Epic Games Store. The team responded to the decision that it leaves less mess installing a Day One patch for the title, but it could be a greater dictate from the publisher more than anything, it is speculated.
Recently at this year’s EGX, creative director Sam Lake went on stage in an interview pressing that Alan Wake II is to receive an influx of post-launch support with both free as well as paid, premium add-on content for the base game, thanks @TheVoidRetro.
“We do have free DLC drops coming and they too are pretty significant and I’m expecting us to be going more into detail- pretty sure when after the game is out. But all of that will be free for everyone who gets the game,” Lake explains. Of course, this is on top of expected add-ons for the story expansions which will be premium content for returning players months after release as well.
Amid the game’s soon arrival, Fortnite is celebrating the launch with a new skin in Fortnite. Recently, Epic Games – that’s also publishing Alan Wake II – revealed a new cosmetic pack for the battle royale based on the sequel’s protagonist has manifested.
