Among the library of properties that define Ubisoft, Watch Dogs is in an obscure position. While championed during its initial reveal more than a decade ago, the series shaped to being a solid franchise that laid ahead even after the reality stuck from the artificial E3 demo. With two more entries, the IP has remained silent for years now. Our review for 2020’s Watch Dog’s Legion gave the game an 8.3/10 score.

“Watch Dogs: Legion isn’t the home run like we wanted, but there are enough enjoyable moments to warrant a recommendation from me,” we wrote then. However, despite the established backing the first two titles garnered, Legion was deemed a loss for the publisher. Since then, little has been expressed in growing the series.

Is Watch Dogs Officially Done?

Most recently, reports share a live-action film is to come from the Ubisoft IP, there is still a vacancy for a new game. And apparently, that is for good. According to known leaker @xj0nathan on X, the series is done for good.

“Watch Dogs is normally dead and buried. Legion’s failure destroyed the projects on the license (including a fairly original Battle Royale),” the leaker said when translated through an auto-translator. Of course, the expectation of new settings & genres to explore was paramount for fans, but appears to be off the table. Previously, Ubisoft Toronto did release a zombie experience for Watch Dogs Legion on PC, but never made its way to console.

For one, it is understood the team for the latest game is already occupied with another project. In a recent development, it is indicated news on the upcoming Splinter Cell Remake is to be spared later this year. Ubisoft is to host its self-named ‘Forward’ presentation this June.
