Nintendo has officially released Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door for the Switch finally bringing the classic game to a modern platform. The game has seen nothing but positive reviews from critics and fans since it dropped on May 23, 2024, and something interesting has been discovered in the codebase for Paper Mario.

paper mario 4k

According to its codebase, Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door has support for 4K resolution in its code. What is interesting about this is that the Nintendo Switch can’t even support 4K. This could likely be a great hint about Nintendo’s next console and what we can expect from it.

This was first found by Necro Felipe from Mastodon.

There were rumors in the past that the Switch 2 could run The Legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild at 4K 60FPS. If that’s the case then this finding in the codebase could be for when the new console comes out. Nintendo will be announcing the Switch Successor by March 31, 2025, so by then we should know a lot about the console and its enhanced features.
