While Ubisoft has been very hesitant to ship a new Prince of Persia title, it took a leap of faith with the arrival for Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown. Rectify Gaming in our review scored the title a 9.5/10. “Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown stands as a testament to the harmonious fusion of innovative gameplay, a compelling narrative, and exquisite artistic design,” we wrote.

And the game’s reception came off hot with many anticipating more in the series to come. Ubisoft did ship an Early Access project ‘The Rogue Prince of Persia’ which was outsourced to a third-party team. However, despite the glowing response of The Lost Crown, it has been rumored that Ubisoft shuttered its Montpellier team due to the spotty financial gains of the January release.

But according to InsiderGaming, the developer is in fact still up & running. While the team is not currently working on the next Prince of Persia developer, the team is focused on other internal projects at Ubisoft. The report indicates that games Beyond Good & Evil 2, Ghost Recon, and even a remake for Rayman ‘Project Steambot’ is being worked on with Montpellier’s involvement.

In a statement to Eurogamer, Ubisoft issued: “Most of the team members who worked on Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown have shifted to other projects that will benefit from their expertise. We know players have a love for this brand and Ubisoft is excited to bring more Prince of Persia experiences in the future,” said Lost Crown senior producer Abdelhak Elguess.

“I’m extremely proud of our team’s work and passion at Ubisoft Montpellier to create a game that resonated with players and critics alike, and I am confident in its long-term success. Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is now at the end of its Post-Launch roadmap with three free content updates and one DLC that released in September. We are now focusing on making the game available to more players: it was recently launched on Steam, and will be available on Mac by this winter.”

While the team is intact, the future for the Metroidvania is still unsure. InsiderGaming did calculate about 1 million copies for the game was sold since releasing. In the same franchise, Ubisoft Montreal is working on a remake for Prince of Persia: Sands of Time which was essentially reset from the ground up. You can read the full report by heading here.
