Playtonic has remained adamant of delivering more for the Yooka-Laylee series. After the release of Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair, the team worked silently until its reveal for Yooka-Replaylee – a proper remake of the modern classic 2017. This past fall, the developer did share new gameplay for the title in anticipation for the 2025 release further ahead.
Previously, Yooka-Laylee did play into crossing streams with other IPs. In the original game, it was revealed that Yacht Club Games’ Shovel Knight would make a cameo in the full release. Similarly, the developer did hint that Yooka-Laylee is being considered to parade in other titles as well outside of its own 2D platform universe.
Recently, Playtonic revealed that Shovel Knight is to make his shining return in Yooka-Replaylee. You can watch the new trailer in the video below:
“The year of the lizard and the bat is here! Kicking off the 10th anniversary year of Playtonic, we sent a pager to our friends over at Yacht Club Games saying that their shovel-wielding hero has taken the wrong exit at the roundabout (or rotary) and ended up in our game again. We were told we can keep him for a while, so excited to share that Shovel Knight will make his courageous return in Yooka-Replaylee,” the press release reveals.
Parallel to Yooka-Replaylee, Shovel Knight is also being remade as well. Last June, Yacht Club Games revealed that a new Shovel Knight: Shovel of Hope DX is in development with plans to release first on PC. You can read the full report by heading here.
Are you excited to see Shovel Knight once again in Yooka-Replaylee?
Yooka-Replaylee launches in 2025 for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
