The spectrum of beloved IPs into virtual reality has been a treat. Take Batman Arkham Shadow for example: “Batman: Arkham Shadow is a must-have for Dark Knight fans, virtual reality enthusiasts, and anyone else interested in what VR can actually offer. Arkham Shadow redefines virtual reality for the Meta Quest, much like Half-Life: Alyx did for the PC,” our review for the game reads.

The same can also be accounted for Metro Awakening as well. “Metro Awakening VR on the Meta Quest 3 provides a powerful, atmospheric trip that brings the Metro series into VR with amazing success. Its gritty settings, improvised homemade weapons, and high-stakes survival gameplay make for a very enjoyable experience overall.” Rectify Gaming scored it a 8/10 in our review.

Now, Thief is the next franchise up to the mantle. In the latest PlayStation State of Play, Vertigo Games announced Thief VR: Legacy of Shadow. You can watch the reveal trailer in the video below:

“The City is a place of shadows, ruled by the tyrant Baron Ulysses Northcrest. You are Magpie, a cunning thief orphaned by Northcrest’s brutality and shaped by the streets, who steals as the only means to survive,” the description reads. “That is, until you uncover something greater: a legendary artifact holding a legacy from the past. Use immersive VR mechanics to steal, evade, and outsmart the forces controlling The City. Unravel its darkest secrets and expose a sinister conspiracy that looms over its very foundation.”

Senior global communications and events manager Wiebe van der Werk elaborated: “The VR experience elevates gameplay to new heights, especially when it comes to combat and precision tasks like archery. The combination of intuitive controls, haptic feedback, and realistic aiming makes ranged combat a thrilling challenge. Whether you’re silently disabling a guard from a distance or hitting a precise target, your skill and focus will be put to the test.”

How excited are you for this adaptation of the Thief franchise?

Thief VR: Legacy of Shadow ships sometime in 2025 for PlayStation VR 2, Meta Quest, and SteamVR.
